HogLens is made by one person. Whatever you send goes to me, and I read all of it.

One thing before you click through: the feedback boards can be read by anyone, but posting, commenting or voting needs an account with Upvoty — an e-mail address (it sends a sign-in link) or a Google account. If you would rather not create one, e-mail me instead. It reaches the same place.

Common questions

Which PostHog API key do I need?

A Personal API key from your PostHog account settings — it begins with phx_. Give it read access to projects, queries, event definitions and dashboards. A project API key (the one beginning with phc_, used for sending events) will not work: it cannot read anything.

I connected, but no projects show up.

Almost always the key's scopes. Check that it has project read access, and for a self-hosted instance that the server address is the base URL of your PostHog installation, without a path. PostHog Cloud EU and US are presets; if you are on one of those, pick the preset rather than typing the address.

My trial has expired and the app only shows the paywall.

That is how HogLens works: there is no free tier, and after the first free month every plan unlocks everything. Choose monthly, yearly or lifetime on that screen. If you already bought a plan and are seeing this on a new device, use Restore Purchases on the same screen — the entitlement travels with your Apple account.

My dashboards synced to a new device, but the connection asks for its token again.

Expected, and deliberate. Connections, projects, dashboards and monitors sync through iCloud; the API token does not — it stays in the Keychain of the device where you entered it, so it is never in your iCloud data. Enter the token once on the new device and everything else is already there.

An imported dashboard says some insights are not compatible.

The import checks every insight against the chart types HogLens can show and tells you which ones it cannot, rather than importing them wrongly. When a later version adds a chart type, Re-Analyze on the dashboard picks those insights up without importing again.

Does it work with a self-hosted PostHog?

Yes. Choose the self-hosted option when adding a connection and enter your server's address.

How do I turn usage analytics off?

Settings → Privacy. They are off until you switch them on; switching them off again stops every one of HogLens's own events. The Privacy Policy sets out what is collected while they are on, and what still happens regardless — the app still talks to your PostHog server, and fetches a configuration file and a news feed from me.

Which languages does it speak?

English, English (UK), German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Ukrainian, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese, switchable in Settings without changing your device language.
